  • [Title] Phospho-p70S6K/p85S6K and cdc2/cdk1 are novel targets for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma combination therapy.
  • PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify and evaluate molecular targets for the development of a novel combination chemotherapy to treat refractory and recurrent diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
  • EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Lymphoma samples from 38 cases of primary and recurrent DLBCL were analyzed using real-time quantitative PCR of the RPS6KB1 and CDC2 genes, and immunohistochemistry for their gene products p70S6K/p85S6K and cdc2/cdk1.
  • The Farage, Karpas422, Pfeiffer, and Toledo DLBCL cell lines were subsequently treated with rapamycin and UCN-01 alone or in combination.
  • Cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression were analyzed after the drug treatment.
  • In addition, the levels of several key protein kinases involved in the phosphoinositide 3'-kinase (PI3K)/Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression were analyzed in the presence and absence of the drugs.
  • RESULTS: Amplification of the RPS6KB1 and CDC2 genes was found in both primary and recurrent DLBCL.
  • The combination of rapamycin and UCN-01 synergistically inhibited the DLBCL cell proliferation by inducing G1 arrest as well as apoptosis by suppressing the phosphorylation of p70S6K/p85S6K and CDC2 expression.
  • This work suggests that multilevel inhibition of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and double-block of cell cycle progression are effective strategies for DLBCL therapy.

  • BACKGROUND: Nodular, lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) represents a rare entity.
  • To determine the histologic transformation (HT) rate to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and long-term outcomes, 164 patients were selected after histologic review.
  • The 19 patients who had HT were treated with curative intent: Nine patients received high-dose therapy with subsequent autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT), and 10 patients received different chemotherapy regimens.
  • The current findings also emphasize the importance of biopsies at the time patients develop recurrent disease to evaluate HT.

  • [Title] Primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the oral cavity: germinal center classification.
  • Primary lymphomas of the oral cavity are rare and the most frequent type is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
  • Recently, several reports have highlighted the value of classifying DLBCL into prognostically important subgroups, namely germinal center B-cell like (GCB) and non-germinal center B-cell like (non-GCB) lymphomas based on gene expression profiles and by immunohistochemical expression of CD10, BCL6 and MUM-1.
  • IHC was performed using antibodies against germinal center markers (CD10, BCL6), activated B-cell markers (MUM1, BCL2) and Ki-67 (proliferation marker).
  • Four of the 5 patients in the GCB subgroup were alive with no evidence of disease and one patient succumbed to complications of therapy and recurrent disease after 18 months.

  • Follicular lymphoma (FL) and the GCB subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) derive from germinal center B cells.
  • Targeted resequencing studies have revealed mutations in various genes encoding proteins in the NF-kappaB pathway that contribute to the activated B-cell (ABC) DLBCL subtype, but thus far few GCB-specific mutations have been identified.
  • Here we report recurrent somatic mutations affecting the polycomb-group oncogene EZH2, which encodes a histone methyltransferase responsible for trimethylating Lys27 of histone H3 (H3K27).

  • We report a case of concurrent multifocal diffuse large B cell lymphoma and malakoplakia of colorectum in a 36-year-old man presenting with recurrent bloody diarrhoea.
  • To the best of our knowledge, this is the third report of coexistence or association of malignant non-Hodgkin lymphoma and malakoplakia in the literature, and the first report ever in the colorectum.

  • AIMS: Primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of bone (PLB) is a rare subtype of primary extranodal diffuse large B cell lymphoma.
  • Here the authors performed the first array-CGH study to detect illness related genomic alterations in nine, clinically well-staged primary lymphoma of bone cases.
  • METHODS: Nine frozen samples from primary lymphoma of bone patients were immunophenotyped and subsequently investigated using a well-established array-CGH platform.
  • RESULTS: Of the nine patients, eight reached complete remission, and one had progressive disease and died of primary lymphoma of bone.
  • CONCLUSIONS: The authors found several recurrent genomic aberrations, including five cases with gain of 1q and four cases with 2p16.1 amplification.
  • These findings further substantiate the notion that primary lymphoma of bone should be considered as a distinct entity not only on clinic-pathological grounds but also on the genomic level as well.

  • BACKGROUND: Patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who are not cured by initial therapy sometimes experience disease-free survival after autologous stem cell transplantation.
  • PATIENTS AND METHODS: We identified patients with relapsed or refractory DLBCL at Weill Cornell Medical Center for whom data on responses to second-line chemotherapy were available.
  • RESULTS: A total of 74 patients with relapsed or refractory DLBCL who underwent second-line chemotherapy between 1996 and 2007 were identified.
  • CONCLUSION: Our data demonstrate that patients with recurrent DLBCL not responding to second-line chemotherapy demonstrate dismal outcomes.

  • [Title] Array-based comparative genomic hybridization analysis reveals recurrent chromosomal alterations and prognostic parameters in primary cutaneous large B-cell lymphoma.
  • PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical relevance of genomic aberrations in primary cutaneous large B-cell lymphoma (PCLBCL).
  • PATIENTS AND METHODS: Skin biopsy samples of 31 patients with a PCLBCL classified as either primary cutaneous follicle center lymphoma (PCFCL; n = 19) or PCLBCL, leg type (n = 12), according to the WHO-European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) classification, were investigated using array-based comparative genomic hybridization, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and examination of promoter hypermethylation.
  • RESULTS: The most recurrent alterations in PCFCL were high-level DNA amplifications at 2p16.1 (63%) and deletion of chromosome 14q32.33 (68%).
  • Seven of seven PCLBCL, leg type, patients with deletion of 9p21.3 and/or complete methylation of CDKN2A died as a result of their lymphoma.

  • [Title] Involved field radiation after autologous stem cell transplant for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the rituximab era.
  • PURPOSE: For patients with recurrent or refractory large B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) is the treatment of choice.
  • MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between May 1992 and April 2005, 176 patients underwent ASCT for recurrent or refractory large B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma; 164 patients were evaluable for endpoint analysis.
  • CONCLUSIONS: Recognizing that positive and negative patient selection bias exists for the use of IFRT post-ASCT, patients initially treated with CHOP or R-CHOP and who undergo ASCT for recurrent or refractory disease may benefit from subsequent IFRT presumably due to enhanced local control that can translate into a survival advantage.

  • Anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive large B-cell lymphoma (ALK(+) LBCL) represents a distinct subtype of mature B-cell neoplasms in the most recent WHO classification of hematolymphoid neoplasms.
  • It has a characteristic immunoblastic/plasmablastic morphology, a distinct immunophenotypic profile and recurrent cytogenetic/molecular genetic abnormalities, and has been reported in both the adult and pediatric populations.
  • With the advent of new ALK inhibitors for possible targeted therapy clinical trials, it is important to recognize this new entity, particularly in the pediatric population because the prognosis is worse than the more common ALK+ anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

  • OBJECTIVES: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common form of non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
  • METHODS: Cytogenetic, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and molecular analyses were performed in 30 cases with DLBCL: 20 de novo DLBCL (dn-DLBCL) and 10 DLBCL secondary to follicular lymphoma (S-DLBCL).
  • Deletions del(4)(q21), del(6)(q27), del(8)(q11), and del(9)(q11) were recurrent.
  • Four novel regions of loss were identified: 5q13-q21, 2q35-qter (both recurrent in our series), 4p11-p12, and 17q11-q12.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether follicular histology in large cell lymphoma influences treatment outcomes after autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT).
  • It remains an area of controversy whether the natural history of follicular large cell lymphoma (FLCL) is akin to diffuse large cell lymphoma (DLCL) with curative potential or is more similar to indolent follicular lymphomas with a pattern of late relapses after intensive chemotherapy.
  • Although ASCT is a potentially curative treatment for patients with recurrent DLCL, the effectiveness of this approach in patients with FLCL is unclear.
  • We undertook a retrospective analysis of 332 patients with large cell lymphoma who underwent ASCT at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center.

  • PURPOSE: The prognosis of relapsing primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) is poor.
  • We report the results of a prospective multicenter trial of intensive chemotherapy followed by autologous hematopoietic stem-cell rescue (IC + HCR) in immunocompetent adult patients with PCNSL or intraocular lymphoma (IOL) after failure of high-dose methotrexate-based treatment.
  • CONCLUSION: IC + HCR is an effective treatment for refractory and recurrent PCNSL.

  • In this work, we have studied the response rates and duration of response after low-dose (4 Gy) involved field radiotherapy (LD-IF-RT) in relapsed or chemotherapy refractory indolent and aggressive lymphoma patients.
  • Patients included were those with small lymphocytic lymphoma/chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (n=23), marginal zone lymphoma, nodal type (n=18), mantle cell lymphoma (n=17), and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (n=13).
  • None of the factors studied (age, sex, lymphoma subtype, radiotherapy regimen, number of prior regimens or time since diagnosis, number of positive sites or largest lymphoma diameter) were found to relate to response.
  • It appears that LD-IF-RT is a valuable asset in the management of relapsed disease in both indolent and aggressive lymphoma and should be considered to palliate symptoms in patients with recurrent and/or chemotherapy refractory disease.

  • The World Health Organization-European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer has individualized three main categories among the primary cutaneous B cell lymphoma (PCBCL): leg-type primary cutaneous large B cell lymphoma (PCLBCL leg type), primary cutaneous follicle center lymphoma (PCFCL), and primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma (PCMZL).
  • The genetic features of 21 PCBCL cases (six PCLBCL leg type four PCFCL large cells, seven PCFCL small cells, and four PCMZL) were investigated by comparative genomic hybridization (CGH array).
  • Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis was performed to confirm CGH array data and to detect lymphoma-associated gene rearrangements. p14(ARF)/p16(INK4a) CDKN2A gene quantification, methylation analysis, and immunohistochemical detection were also performed.
  • CGH array showed a higher number of recurrent genetic imbalances in PCLBCL leg type (mean 62) than in PCFCL large cells (mean 34).
  • Recurrent deletions in 9p21 (p14(ARF)/p16(INK4a)CDKN2A) were a constant finding in PCLBCL leg type (six of six).
  • Conversely, PCFCL large cells exhibited recurrent 1p36 deletions (four of four) without deletion in 9p21 (zero of four).

  • BACKGROUND: The objective of the current study was to evaluate a salvage chemotherapy regimen consisting of mitoxantrone, carboplatin, cytosine arabinoside, and methylprednisolone (MiCMA) for the treatment of patients with primary refractory or recurrent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
  • METHODS: From September 1991 to August 2002, 94 consecutive patients ages 16-60 years who had either recurrent or refractory NHL (mainly diffuse large-cell lymphomas) were treated on the MiCMA protocol.
  • Patients had peripheral blood stem cells collected successfully for autologous stem cell transplantation after two or three cycles of MiCMA.
  • Sixty-two patients underwent autologous stem cell transplantation.
  • CONCLUSIONS: The current results suggested that MiCMA chemotherapy is an effective therapeutic alternative salvage regimen for patients with primary refractory or recurrent NHL.
  • Peripheral blood stem cell transplantation was feasible in virtually all patients, and its outcome was influenced strongly by chemosensitivity.

  • PURPOSE: A multicenter, single-arm study examining efficacy and toxicity of epratuzumab combined with rituximab was conducted in patients with recurrent or refractory non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
  • PATIENTS AND METHODS: Sixty-five patients were enrolled; 34 patients with follicular lymphoma (FL), 15 patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), and 16 patients with other lymphomas.

  • BACKGROUND: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been implicated in B-cell lymphoma associated with iatrogenic immune dysregulation, primarily in the context of extracutaneous lymphoma.
  • METHODS: We describe six patients, five transplant recipients receiving cyclosporine and one patient with rheumatoid arthritis receiving methotrexate, who developed cutaneous presentations of EBV-associated B-cell lymphoma.
  • RESULTS: The cases comprised plasmablastic lymphoma (one case), plasmacytic marginal zone lymphoma (two cases), and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (three cases).
  • Recurrent disease developed in two, with one patient succumbing to multiorgan dissemination.
  • CONCLUSIONS: EBV-associated cutaneous B-cell lymphoma is characterized by a long interval between the initiation of immunosuppression and the development of lymphoma.

  • [Title] Humanized anti-CD20 antibody, veltuzumab, in refractory/recurrent non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: phase I/II results.
  • PURPOSE: This is a multicenter phase I/II dose-finding study in relapsed/refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) evaluating veltuzumab, a humanized anti-CD20 antibody with structure-function differences from chimeric rituximab.
  • In follicular lymphoma, 24 (44%) of 55 patients had objective responses (OR), with 15 (27%) complete responses (CRs) or CRs unconfirmed (CRus) by International Working Group criteria, and with some responses occurring despite two to five prior rituximab-containing regimens, less favorable prognosis (elevated lactate dehydrogenase, tumors > 5 cm, and Follicular Lymphoma International Prognostic Index > or = 2), and at all dose levels.
  • In marginal zone lymphoma, five (83%) of six patients had ORs, with two CRs/CRus (33%), and in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, three (43%) of seven patients achieved partial responses.

  • Modern chemotherapy for childhood Burkitt lymphoma has its origins in Africa, where treatment evolved from one or two doses of single agents, which were curative in some patients, to combinations of non-cross-resistant drugs.
  • Subsequently, in Europe and the United States, high-dose methotrexate, high-dose cytarabine, etoposide, and ifosfamide were found to be active in children with recurrent disease and were incorporated into primary therapy for patients with high-risk disease.
  • Therapy regimens for adults with Burkitt lymphoma have been developed by modifying second-generation pediatric protocols, and few investigators have used the third-generation pediatric regimens that include higher doses of methotrexate and additional agents.
  • The weight of evidence strongly suggests that high-dose therapy with stem cell rescue in first remission cannot substitute for intensive therapy from the outset.
  • Because childhood diffuse large-B-cell leukemia (DLBCL) responds equally well to therapy for Burkitt lymphoma, more intensive therapy and intensive support might also give better results in at least a subset of adults with advanced DLBCL-perhaps defined on the basis of limited molecular profiling, which has provided new information about the categories of aggressive B-cell lymphomas.

  • To aid in case classification and identify key pathogenetic events in ARL, we analyzed gene expression data and somatic DNA copy number changes by high-resolution array comparative genomic hybridization in tumors from 20 B-cell derived ARL (B-ARL) patients.
  • Gene expression-based predictors robustly classified the B-ARL cases, distinguishing Burkitt lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and identifying activated B-cell like and germinal center B-cell like molecular subtypes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
  • Array comparative genomic hybridization analysis revealed 13 recurrent losses and 16 recurrent gains in the B-ARL cases, including gain of 19p13.2 and loss of 16q23, not previously reported in B-ARL.

  • BACKGROUND: To estimate the response rate and therapy related toxicities of the anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab when combined with chemotherapy including ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide (ICE) in patients with relapsed and refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma and mature B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL).
  • Of the six eligible patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, three achieved complete remission (CR), one had stable disease (SD), and two had progressive disease (PD).
  • Of the 14 eligible patients with Burkitt lymphoma and B-ALL, there were four complete responses (CR), five partial responses (PR), one SD, and four with PD.
  • Following completion of protocol therapy six patients were able to proceed to consolidation with high-dose therapy and stem cell rescue.

  • Primary lymphomas of the CNS (PCNSLs) show molecular features of the late germinal center exit B-cell phenotype and are impaired in their terminal differentiation as indicated by a lack of immunoglobulin class switching.
  • Because the positive regulatory domain I protein with ZNF domain (PRDM1/BLIMP1) is a master regulator of terminal B-cell differentiation into plasma cells, we investigated a series of 21 PCNSLs for the presence of mutations in the PRDM1 gene and alterations in the expression pattern of the PRDM1 protein.
  • Thus, similar to systemic diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, PRDM1 may be a tumor suppressor in some PCNSL and contribute to lymphomagenesis by impairing terminal differentiation.

  • PATIENTS AND METHODS: Twenty-three patients with recurrent B-cell lymphoma received anti-CD22 epratuzumab 360 mg/m(2) and anti-CD20 rituximab 375 mg/m(2) monoclonal antibodies weekly for four doses each.
  • Sixteen patients had indolent histologies (15 with follicular lymphoma) and seven had aggressive NHL (all diffuse large B-cell lymphoma [DLBCL]).
  • Indolent patients had received a median of one (range, one to six) prior treatment, with 31% refractory to their last therapy and 81% with high-risk Follicular Lymphoma International Prognostic Index scores.

  • Balanced reciprocal translocations involving chromosomal region 3q27, which led to identification of the BCL6 protooncogene, are one of the most common recurrent chromosomal abnormalities reported in B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas (B-NHL).
  • These rearrangements accounted for 3/20 (15%) of all BCL6 translocations occurring in B-NHL, including follicular lymphomas, diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, and marginal zone B-cell lymphomas, diagnosed at our institute.

  • High-dose therapy (HDT) is now recommended for patients under 60 years of age with chemosensitive relapsed aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
  • Prognostic factors are needed to predict which patients with chemosensitive lymphoma to second-line therapy could benefit from HDT.
  • Thirty-six patients had diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
  • Ten patients had an IPI >1, 16 had relapsed early (<6 months after first-line therapy) or disease was refractory to first-line therapy (5 of the 16 patients).
  • Overall survival was not statistically different in patients with refractory disease or in those who relapsed early compared with late failures (>6 months after first-line chemotherapy) (P=1), but the AA-IPI >1 was associated with a poor outcome (P=0.03).
  • In conclusion, the AA-IPI could have a prognostic value in patients with chemosensitive recurrent lymphoma treated with BEAM HDT.

  • [Title] Primary lymphoma of nasolacrimal drainage system: a case report and literature review.
  • Primary lymphoma of the lacrimal drainage system (LDS) is an extremely rare condition.
  • All of those previously reported have been of B-cell origin, with the exception of 1 case report of a natural killer/T-cell lymphoma in a Japanese woman.
  • We report a 41-year-old Chinese woman who had a primary diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma of left LDS.
  • After reviewing associated articles, an interesting finding which, to the best of our knowledge, has never been described before is that all the expired or recurrent cases of primary lymphoma of lacrimal drainage system are of women, including the only 1 case of natural killer/T-cell lymphoma.
  • In our opinion, sex should be considered 1 of the prognostic factors in primary lymphoma of LDS.

  • The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility, efficacy and toxicity of the combined therapy consisting of cladribine (2-CdA), mitoxantrone and cyclophosphamide (CMC regimen) in patients with refractory or relapsed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).
  • Thirty six patients, 14 with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), 10 with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), 5 with follicular lymphoma (FL), 3 with small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), and 4 with T-cell lymphoma were enrolled to the study.
  • When different disease status before CMC treatment was considered, a trend toward longer survival of recurrent patients was observed (log rank test, P = 0.08).

  • [Title] Treatment results of tonsillar lymphoma: a 10-year experience.
  • Primary tonsillar lymphoma accounts for less than 1% of head and neck malignancies, although the tonsil is the most common primary extranodal site of head and neck non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.
  • In this study we analyzed our cases of tonsillar lymphoma treated in our institution during the last 10 years to compare the finding of this study with those of previous studies.
  • We reviewed the cases of tonsillar lymphoma treated in the Radiation Oncology Department of Shiraz University from 1992 to 2002.
  • Diffuse large B-cell lymphomas were the most prevalent.
  • A late fatal side effect was observed in one patient who developed radiation-induced sarcoma 7 years after initial diagnosis and died 8 months later without evidence of recurrent lymphoma.
  • Combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy is safe, highly effective, and probably curative for most patients with primary tonsillar lymphoma.

  • [Title] Translocations involving 8q24 in Burkitt lymphoma and other malignant lymphomas: a historical review of cytogenetics in the light of todays knowledge.
  • Burkitt lymphoma (BL) has a characteristic clinical presentation, morphology, immunophenotype and primary chromosomal aberration, that is, the translocation t(8;14)(q24;q32) or its variants.
  • However, diagnostic dilemmas may arise in daily practice due to overlap of BL with subsets of other aggressive, mature B-cell lymphomas such as diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL).
  • In the remaining cases, additional recurrent but partially exclusive abnormalities included gains at chromosomes 1q, 7 and 12, and losses of 6q, 13q32-34 and 17p.
  • Within the core subset, no differences were found between pediatric and adult patients.
  • We suggest that, concordant with the WHO classification to be published in 2008, the diagnosis of BL should be restricted to cases with expression of CD10 and BCL6, absence or very weak expression of BCL2 protein, a homogeneously very high proliferation index and a proven IG-MYC translocation without evidence of a chromosomal translocation typical for other lymphoma entities.

  • We therefore used partially human leukocyte antigen-matched third-party in vitro expanded EBV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) to treat 2 CBT recipients with life-threatening, donor-derived monoclonal EBV(+) diffuse large B-cell lymphomas with extranodal involvement developing in the context of graft-versus-host disease.

  • The translocation t(11;18)(q21;q21) characteristic of MALT lymphoma is recognized as a marker for H. pylori independency, but this marker is found in only a half of the MALT lymphomas resistant to H. pylori eradication.
  • Many of these alterations were similar to those found in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with trisomy 3 being the most recurrent alteration.
  • Within the t(11;18) negative MALT lymphoma without large cell components group, genomic imbalances occurred more frequently in the H. pylori independent than in the H. pylori dependent group (P = 0.02).

  • BACKGROUND: Patients who have aggressive, refractory or recurrent non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs) that are refractory to first-line anthracycline-containing regimens (ACRs) have a dismal outcome.
  • METHODS: Between February 1998 and May 2002, 28 consecutive adult patients (median age, 44 years) with aggressive NHL (B-lineage in 21%, T-lineage in 7%, and Ki-67 percentage > 50 in 82%) were entered on the protocol after they had failed on ACRs (15 patients with refractory disease, 6 patients with stable disease, 5 patients with recurrent disease, and 2 patients in partial remission).
  • Subsequently, 15 patients underwent autologous stem cell transplantation (SCT), and 4 patients underwent allogeneic SCT.
  • Two of 18 patients developed recurrent disease (11.1%).

  • Rituximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody against CD20 that is used mainly for the treatment of CD20-positive lymphoma.
  • Four patients were treated for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and 2 patients for follicular lymphoma.
  • Five of the 6 patients presented with infectious complications, and 4 patients experienced recurrent episodes of neutropenia.
  • Data regarding populations at risk are not consistent, and in some instances are conflicting.Patients considered at increased risk of LON include patients after autologous stem cell transplantation, patients treated for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)-related lymphoma, and patients treated with purine analogues.
  • Re-treatment with rituximab after LON may result in recurrent episodes, but the implications and risks are uncertain at the present time.
