  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Intracystic adenomyoepithelioma of the breast--case report and review.
  • A case of an intracystic adenomyoepithelioma of the breast mimicking intracystic carcinoma is described.
  • Histopathologic and immunohistochemical examination revealed an intracystic adenomyoepithelioma without nodal involvement.
  • The imaging features of this rare tumor may vary widely, which may result in an incorrect diagnosis of breast carcinoma.
  • Indeed, adenomyoepithelioma has metastatic potential; however, lymphatic spread is rare and axillary intervention may be over-treatment for most cases.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Ultrasonographic features of benign adenomyoepithelioma of the breast.
  • OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ultrasonographic features of benign adenomyoepithelioma of the breast.
  • MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2005 and 2009, five patients had histologically confirmed adenomyoepithelioma of the breast.
  • The ultrasonographic assessments were classified as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category 4A, with low suspicion of malignancy in two cases, and as category 4B, with intermediate suspicion of malignancy in three cases.
  • The pathology revealed benign adenomyoepithelioma in all patients.
  • Although adenomyoepithelioma is a rare breast tumor, awareness of its sonographic features will be helpful for the differential diagnosis from other tumors.

  • [Title] Collagenous spherulosis associated with adenomyoepithelioma of the breast: a case report.
  • BACKGROUND: Collagenous spherulosis (CS) associated with an adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the breast is rare.
  • This report describes a case of CS associated with an AME of the right breast, including the cytologic and histopathologic findings.
  • CASE: A 51-year-old female presented with a slow-growing left breast mass that had been present for 5 months.
  • Grossly, the 1.5-cm lesion was solid and embedded within the breast parenchyma.
  • CONCLUSION: There is no previous report describing the cytologic findings of CS associated with an AME of the breast.
  • AMEs should therefore be considered an underlying pathology of CS of the breast.

  • [Title] Adenomyoepithelioma of the breast; a case report and literature review.
  • A case of adenomyoepithelioma of the breast is presented in order to illustrate some of the difficulties in achieving a pathological diagnosis of this lesion.
  • Given the emerging evidence for adenomyoepithelioma to develop into malignancy, it is imperative that the histopathological features of this lesion are well described and recognized.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Coexistent adenomyoepithelioma and invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast: presentation as separate tumors.
  • Adenomyoepitheliomas are rare breast tumors.
  • We report an unusual case of adenomyoepithelioma associated with invasive ductal carcinoma here.
  • The other tumor corresponded to adenomyoepithelioma consisting of an inner layer of neoplastic cells with basophilic cytoplasm and the outer layer of neoplastic cells with clear cytoplasm.
  • Immunohistochemically, some myofibroblasts were observed in the stroma of both adenomyoepithelioma and invasive ductal carcinoma, but no CD34-positive stromal cells were seen in the stroma of either lesion.
  • The stromal reaction of adenomyoepithelioma resembles that of intraductal papilloma in the previous study.
  • To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of coexistent adenomyoepithelioma and invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast that were discovered as separate nodules.
  • Clinicians and pathologists should be aware of such an association because they need to distinguish such a case from malignant neoplasms arising in adenomyoepithelioma.
  • Additionally, our preliminary report suggests that the stromal response of adenomyoepithelioma may resemble that of intraductal papilloma.

  • [Title] Salivary gland-type tumors of the breast: a spectrum of benign and malignant tumors including "triple negative carcinomas" of low malignant potential.
  • Salivary gland-type neoplasms of the breast are uncommon and comprise numerous entities analogous to that more commonly seen in salivary glands.
  • In the breast, benign adenomyoepithelioma is recognized in addition to malignant one, whereas in the salivary gland a histologically similar tumor is designated as epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma without a separate benign subgroup.
  • It is also important to appreciate that in contrast to "triple negative" conventional breast carcinomas with aggressive course, most salivary-type malignant breast neoplasms behave in a low-grade manner.
  • Well established examples of this group include pleomorphic adenoma, adenomyoepithelioma, and adenoid cystic carcinoma.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Metaplastic carcinoma with extensive chondroid differentiation in the breast (chondroid carcinoma).
  • Metaplastic breast carcinoma is very rare, and metaplastic carcinoma with chondroid differentiation is even rarer.
  • When pathologists encounter breast tumors with chondroid differentiation, careful sampling and immunohistochemistry for cytokeratin and SMA are most helpful to differentiate metaplastic carcinoma from malignant phyllodes tumor and malignant adenomyoepithelioma.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Palpable breast masses with probably benign morphology at sonography: can biopsy be deferred?
  • BACKGROUND: When a palpable breast mass is detected, a biopsy is usually performed even if the mass reveals probably benign morphologic features on imaging, as there is relatively little data reporting the outcome of such breast masses.
  • PURPOSE: To determine the negative predictive value for sonographic evaluation of palpable breast masses with probably benign morphology, and to assess whether follow-up may be an acceptable alternative to immediate biopsy.
  • CONCLUSION: The negative predictive value of sonography for palpable breast masses with probably benign morphology is high (99.4%).

  • [Title] Extensive extranodal metastases of basal-like breast cancer with predominant myoepithelial spindle cell differentiation.
  • A differentiation towards myoepithelial cells has been demonstrated in several types of lesions in the breast.
  • These include multifocal myoepitheliomatosis, the rare mixed tumor or pleomorphic adenoma, adenoid cystic carcinoma, adenomyoepithelioma and myoepithelial carcinoma (malignant myoepithelioma).
  • The presented case of a breast carcinoma with dominant myoepithelial/spindle cell differentiation in a 58-year-old woman is an excellent example to document the highly aggressive biological behavior of this tumor phenotype.

  • [Title] Pathological features of primary breast cancer in the elderly based on needle core biopsies--a large series from a single centre.
  • Most breast cancer patients are diagnosed at>65 years but research efforts are mainly focussed on younger patients.
  • Knowledge related to elderly breast cancer is urgently needed.
  • Patients>70 years presenting with early operable primary breast cancer were studied.
  • Pathological features of diagnostic needle core biopsies taken from 2078 tumours from 2061 consecutive patients managed under a dedicated elderly breast cancer service, in 1987-2006, were reviewed.
  • One malignant adenomyoepithelioma was seen.
  • We believe that this is the largest dataset of pathological features of elderly primary breast cancer from one institution.
