  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] [Successful treatment of multiple pulmonary metastases of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the external auditory meatus with TS-1].
  • The diagnosis was adenoid cystic carcinoma of the external auditory meatus, so the primary focus was excised.
  • During the postoperative observation period, multiple metastases to the lung were noted, for which TS-1 (120 mg/day, given for 28 consecutive days, each course followed by a discontinuation of 14 days) was administered.
  • After the completion of 2 courses, reductions in the metastatic pulmonary lesions and the amount of pleural effusion were noted, while adverse effects were limited to mild anorexia.
  • Thus, it was possible to continue medication for 15 months on an ambulatory basis.
  • It was indicated that TS-1 may be effective in the treatment of multiple pulmonary metastases of adenoid cystic carcinoma.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] [Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the nasopharynx: a case report].
  • Nasopharyngeal adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare tumor, few cases have been reported in the literature.
  • The aim of this report is to present a new case of an adenoid cystic carcinoma of the nasopharynx.
  • We report the case of a 50 years-old woman presenting with an adenoid cystic carcinoma of the nasopharynx with diffuse pulmonary metastasis.
  • The treatment combined chemotherapy, based on cisplatin and adriamycin drugs, and palliative radiation therapy at the dose of 30 Gy.
  • The patient died 6 months after diagnosis establishment.
  • The best treatment of adenoid cystic carcinoma is complete surgical resection but extended resection can be difficult in some locations as nasopharynx.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • There is only 1 brief description of the cytologic findings of metastatic sialoblastoma and 1 poorly documented case of lung metastasis in the literature.
  • CASE: A 75-month-old girl with a history of recurrent sialoblastoma initially diagnosed at 21 months and treated with multiple incomplete surgical excisions, chemotherapy and radiation presented with a solitary lung nodule.
  • Imprint smears and frozen section of the mass were diagnostic of metastatic sialoblastoma.
  • The differential diagnoses include neoplasms composed of either basaloid cells and/or admixed hyaline matrix material and included pleomorphic adenoma, basal cell adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • The most common second malignancies are acute leukemia, bone and soft tissue tumors, and carcinoma of the skin, breast, and thyroid.
  • The pathology of the salivary gland tumors were mucoepidermoid carcinoma (10), adenoid cystic carcinoma (1) , and pleomorphic adenoma (1).
  • Eleven patients were alive with no evidence of disease at last follow-up, and 1 patient was alive with clinical evidence of pulmonary metastasis.
  • The majority of these neoplasms are malignant; mucoepidermoid carcinoma occurs most frequently.

  • [Title] [Diagnosis, treatment and prognostic factors of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the palate].
  • OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the palate.
  • METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted in 42 patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma of the palate treated in our hospital from 1967 to 1998.
  • CONCLUSION: Surgery alone can be done for early lesions, and combination of surgery with radiotherapy should be adopted for advanced lesions in adenoid cystic carcinoma of the palate.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] [Clinicopathological characteristics of six patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholin gland].
  • OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics and treatment of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholin gland.
  • METHODS: The clinicopathological data of six patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholin gland were retrospectively analyzed.
  • RESULTS: All patients had definite pathological diagnosis.
  • Cribriform arrangement of tubules and gland-like elements and infiltration of perineural spaces were two main microscopic features of this type of tumor.
  • Recurrence developed in 4 cases including 3 with both local recurrence and lung metastasis, and one had lung metastasis only.
  • One patient died of lung metastasis and her total survival period was 135 months.
  • CONCLUSION: Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the Bartholin gland is a slow growing but locally very aggressive neoplasm with a high capacity for local recurrence and lung metastasis.
