1. Monari P, Farisoglio C, Gualdi G, Botali G, Ungari M, Calzavara-Pinton P: Multiple eruptive clear cell acanthoma. J Dermatol Case Rep; 2010 Nov 19;4(2):25-7

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Multiple eruptive clear cell acanthoma.
  • BACKGROUND: Clear cell acanthoma is a rare solitary benign epidermal tumor of unknown etiology.
  • The disease arises in the middle-age, with no sex predominance.
  • Although solitary lesions are the rule, less than 30 cases of multiple Clear cell acanthoma have been described in the literature to date.
  • MAIN OBSERVATIONS: We report an unusual case of a healthy 74-year-old male with multiple clear cell acanthoma on the lower extremities treated successfully with cryotherapy.
  • CONCLUSIONS: Despite significant progress in treatment of clear cell acanthoma, cryotherapy, based on liquid nitrogen, remains an important alternative in treating multiple clear cell acanthomas.

  • We diagnosed an unusual case of EA of the vulva presenting in a linear pattern in a 50-year-old lady based on the clinical features and typical histopathological findings and stress the importance of considering epidermolytic acanthoma in the differential diagnosis of verrucous lesions of the genitalia.

  • [Title] Clear cell acanthoma: a rare clinical diagnosis prior to biopsy.
  • BACKGROUND: Clear cell acanthoma is a rare, benign epidermal tumor with a clinical hybrid appearance and a distinct histological one.
  • OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the frequency that clear cell acanthoma was listed in the clinical differential diagnosis of histologically confirmed specimens.
  • METHODS: A regional dermatopathology lab database was evaluated from January 1998 through March 2008 for histologically diagnosed cases of clear cell acanthoma.
  • RESULTS: During this time period of review, 411 histologically confirmed cases of clear cell acanthoma were identified.
  • CONCLUSION: Clear cell acanthoma was rarely listed amongst the differential diagnosis of biopsy proven specimens.

  • Taken together these results suggest the inflammatory nature of CCA and further support the hypothesis that this disease may represent, like psoriasis, an inflammatory dermatosis in which KGF up-modulation may be responsible for keratinocyte hyperproliferation and may represent a new common feature of both diseases.

  • BACKGROUND: Seborrheic keratosis (SK) is one of the more common benign epidermal neoplasms seen in adult and middle-aged patients.
  • OBJECTIVE: As little is written in the literature about the variants of SK, this article aims to categorize and discuss the different subtypes and their important associations.
  • METHODS: An in-depth literature search using OVID Medline and PubMed was conducted to classify the various subtypes of SK.
  • RESULTS: Six subtypes of SK were identified: dermatosis papulosa nigra, stucco keratosis, inverted follicular keratosis, large cell acanthoma, lichenoid keratosis, and flat seborrheic keratosis.
  • CONCLUSION: Although all subtypes of SK are benign, their association with other malignant lesions and ability to serve as cutaneous markers of internal malignancy emphasize the importance of correctly identifying all variants.
