  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • [Title] Multiple eruptive clear cell acanthoma.
  • BACKGROUND: Clear cell acanthoma is a rare solitary benign epidermal tumor of unknown etiology.
  • The disease arises in the middle-age, with no sex predominance.
  • Although solitary lesions are the rule, less than 30 cases of multiple Clear cell acanthoma have been described in the literature to date.
  • MAIN OBSERVATIONS: We report an unusual case of a healthy 74-year-old male with multiple clear cell acanthoma on the lower extremities treated successfully with cryotherapy.
  • CONCLUSIONS: Despite significant progress in treatment of clear cell acanthoma, cryotherapy, based on liquid nitrogen, remains an important alternative in treating multiple clear cell acanthomas.

  • [Title] Linear epidermolytic acanthoma of vulva: an unusual presentation.
  • Epidermolytic acanthoma (EA) is a rare benign tumor that shows epidermolytic hyperkeratosis (EH) on histopathology.
  • We diagnosed an unusual case of EA of the vulva presenting in a linear pattern in a 50-year-old lady based on the clinical features and typical histopathological findings and stress the importance of considering epidermolytic acanthoma in the differential diagnosis of verrucous lesions of the genitalia.

  • [Title] Clear cell acanthoma: a rare clinical diagnosis prior to biopsy.
  • BACKGROUND: Clear cell acanthoma is a rare, benign epidermal tumor with a clinical hybrid appearance and a distinct histological one.
  • OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the frequency that clear cell acanthoma was listed in the clinical differential diagnosis of histologically confirmed specimens.
  • METHODS: A regional dermatopathology lab database was evaluated from January 1998 through March 2008 for histologically diagnosed cases of clear cell acanthoma.
  • RESULTS: During this time period of review, 411 histologically confirmed cases of clear cell acanthoma were identified.
  • CONCLUSION: Clear cell acanthoma was rarely listed amongst the differential diagnosis of biopsy proven specimens.

  • The aetiopathogenic mechanism underlying clear cell acanthoma (CCA) is not completely clear and it has been postulated that CCA and psoriasis may have a similar pathogenesis because of the common features shared by the two diseases.
  • Taken together these results suggest the inflammatory nature of CCA and further support the hypothesis that this disease may represent, like psoriasis, an inflammatory dermatosis in which KGF up-modulation may be responsible for keratinocyte hyperproliferation and may represent a new common feature of both diseases.

  • [Title] Clear (pale) cell acanthosis as an incidental finding.
  • Different patterns of epidermal change, including epidermolytic hyperkeratosis and acantholytic dyskeratosis, may represent the predominant histopathologic finding in several localized and generalized processes.
  • Occasionally, minute foci of these reaction patterns are identified as an incidental finding in a biopsy taken because of the presence of some other lesion.
  • Clear (pale) cell acanthosis may occur as the main histologic alteration in clear (pale) cell acanthoma or incidentally, such as may be seen within a seborrheic keratosis.

  • Not uncommonly, sebaceous structures were arranged in a reticulate pattern similar to that seen in reticulated acanthoma with sebaceous differentiation (12%).

  • As a solitary tumorlike lesion, it is akin to warty dyskeratoma and epidermolytic acanthoma, thus we have coined the term porokeratoma.

  • [Source] The source of this record is MEDLINE®, a database of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
  • BACKGROUND: Seborrheic keratosis (SK) is one of the more common benign epidermal neoplasms seen in adult and middle-aged patients.
  • OBJECTIVE: As little is written in the literature about the variants of SK, this article aims to categorize and discuss the different subtypes and their important associations.
  • METHODS: An in-depth literature search using OVID Medline and PubMed was conducted to classify the various subtypes of SK.
  • RESULTS: Six subtypes of SK were identified: dermatosis papulosa nigra, stucco keratosis, inverted follicular keratosis, large cell acanthoma, lichenoid keratosis, and flat seborrheic keratosis.
  • CONCLUSION: Although all subtypes of SK are benign, their association with other malignant lesions and ability to serve as cutaneous markers of internal malignancy emphasize the importance of correctly identifying all variants.

  • [Title] Benign cutaneous Degos disease in a 16-year-old girl.
  • Degos disease is a rare disorder, characterized by the development of typical atrophic porcelain-white macules on the trunk and extremities.
  • Degos disease is extremely rare in children.
  • We report Degos disease in a teenager with an extended survival and the absence of internal involvement.
  • We discuss the concept of benign cutaneous Degos and review the 34 patients (30 adults and four children) identified in the world literature with skin biopsy and at least 1 year of follow-up; the average age was 37.6 years; 26 were female and eight were male.
  • As opposed to the malignant form of Degos disease, benign cutaneous Degos is more commonly reported in women (3:1).
  • We also discuss the 24 reported instances of Degos disease (malignant and benign) in the pediatric population, of which 14 (58%) were fatal, with death occurring on average 3.6 years after diagnosis.

  • OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to describe the relationships between the distribution of nodal disease, clinico-pathological patterns and recurrence and survival in surgically staged cases of endometrial cancer.
  • Under-diagnosis of the disease might result if there was only a PLN, but with or without PALN involvement there was no significant difference in overall survival or recurrence.
